Louis Telcy

Louis was born in a small rural Haitian Village. His parents struggled to be able to send him to school. At the age of 10, with help from “World Vision” an international non-profit organization, Louis was able to attend school full-time for several years. At age 17 Louis was able to come to the United States after being granted “political asylum”. This was due to a politically unstable time in Haiti after Jean-Bertrand Aristide became the first democratically elected President of Haiti. Shortly after the election, a Haitian army general staged a military overthrow of the elected government of Aristide and terrorized many of Aristide supporters. Louis had been a known Aristide supporter and was told the “police were coming to get him”. The U.S. Embassy in Haiti provided protection to Louis until they allowed him to enter the United States. Louis studied diligently to learn English and graduated from high school in the United States. He then attended Warner Southern College in Florida and then attended and graduated from Duke University School of Divinity with a Masters degree. Louis served as Associate Pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Naples, Florida for about 2 years. In 2006 he became Pastor of La Piscine United Methodist Church in Naples, Florida, a mostly Haitian congregation, where he continues today together with his wife Claudie. Louis started Schools For Haiti Foundation to give other children in rural Haiti the opportunity to attend school and receive an education that can benefit them for a lifetime.
